Time for my monthly participation in WWW Wednesday! May has been both relaxing and busy so far. I’m back home and I spent the first 2 weeks be lazy at home. Now, I’m back at my summer job, working full time. Thankfully, it’s a relatively chill environment with lots of breaks which means lots of opportunities for reading! Without a doubt, May has been my most productive reading month this year. Fingers crossed it continues!
Also, for those of you who don’t know: WWW Wednesday is a weekly book meme hosted by Taking on a World of Words where you answer 3 ‘what’ questions about your reading.
What are you currently reading?
This COVER is so PRETTY. Between the cover and the fact that one of the protagonists is essentially a vessel for a god, I was sold on this book! I got an eARC from Netgalley and the book MIGHT have released yesterday (whoops), so I’m hoping to finish & review it soon. At the moment I’m only 10% in and it’s kinda of melodramatic but the magic is intriguing, so fingers crossed it improves throughout the book!
What did you recently finish reading?
Dragon Pearl– Look at me, reading a middle grade book! This book was the May read for the Dragons & Tea Book Club. I got a late start so I didn’t participate in the discussions as much as I wanted to, but the book was really fun and I enjoyed it a lot more than I was expecting to!
An Illusion of Thieves– Another eARC from Netgally that I mostly requested because of the pretty cover. This book was a…very meh read for me. The beginning was slow, the ending was cheesy, and I was uncomfortable with the sibling dynamic at the beginning. Full review to come this weekend! (Lol, hopefully)
What do you think you’ll read next?
Honestly, I’m kinda at a loss for what I want to read next. I don’t think I’m slumping (yet), but there are so many books that I want to read that I don’t know how to pick?!?!? Do I read Wonder Woman: Warbringer, a book I’ve been borrowing from my aunt for over a year? Rosemary & Rue by Seanan McGuire (I’ve never read anything by her and I want to change that!)? A Million Junes by Emily Henry, a book already sitting on my shelf? Or Green Rider by Kristen Britain, another book on my shelf? I have no clue!

See, I’m always conscious of the publishing dates. But between not wanting to read books too far away from their release dates and then time getting away from me or me not being in the right mood, I can’t seem to stay on top of any of my ARCs lately! Hmm, maybe I should try to take a break from requesting ARCs? Most of the ARCs I’ve read this year have been pretty mediocre reads anyway.

I am THE WORST at reviewing ARCs on time, so don’t feel bad. xD I’m getting better about it, but I hit some personal struggles last year, so I have, like, 10 ARCs that released in the last year that I haven’t read yet, because I fell behind and stopped blogging for a while to deal with personal issues. So I definitely hear you. I’m actually trying to fit in, umm, four ARCs between this week and next that all release in the first two weeks of June haha.
The lIving God has a really pretty cover. I want to read Dragon Pearl! It sounds really interesting. I love that the Rick Riordan presents series has been doing a lot with diverse books and presenting all these different cultures and myths and legends.
I have problems deciding what to read next, too. There are just too many options. I hope you enjoy whatever you choose!

Oh no, I’m sorry to hear you had a rough time last year. I hope things are going better for you now. And you got this on those 4 ARCs! What books are they?
And yesss, read Dragon Pearl; it was such a fun read! And same, I love how Rick Riordan Presents’ mission is to publish mythology inspired MG from #ownvoices! Every time I hear about another one, I’m like “Yep, adding that to the TBR!” I’m hoping to pick up Aru Shah and the End of Time sometime this summer!
And yess, it’s so hard to decide! Thanks–I ended up picking up Wonder Woman and I’m adoring it so far! Happy reading!

No worries, life moves on, and I’m doing okay now. 🙂 I ended up DNFing one (The Teahouse Detective: The Old Man in the Corner, which was, as it turns out, just an old man in the corner recouting, in dialogue, cases he’s solved — definitely not my thing). I read The Manticore’s Vow, which is a companion for a series I’ve had on my shelf for a while, so I read the whole thing. I’m about 25% through The History of Soul 2065, which is interesting so far but I’m not entirely sure where it’s going yet. And then my fourth ARC is The Girl Who Could Move Sh*t With Her Mind, which how could I resist with a title like that? I could not, clearly. xD
I was so disappointed because I just couldn’t get into Aru Shah. I just hated the main character, and it’s really hard to read something from the POV of someone you can’t stand. Which is a shame since I love the author’s other work. I think it’s great that it’s out there, though, and a lot of people seem to be loving it! I’m so looking forward to Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky by Kwame Mbalia.

There’s a bummer about the DNF, but at least that one’s less thing you need to read now! Oooh, I feel like I’ve recently heard of both The Manticore’s Vow and The History of Soul 2065 (don’t remember what either of them are about tho). And omg, The Girl Who Could Move Sh*t With He Mind–that is an amazing title. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it! Looking it up on Goodreads now…
And ahh, that’s a bummer about Aru Shah. Yeah, it’s so hard to enjoy a book when protagonists are crappy. So far I’ve only read The Star-Touched Queen and The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi and really enjoyed them!

I just finished The History of Soul 2065, and it was really neat! Definitely a different format than I expected (not so much a book as a collection of short stories that sort of culminated into a larger story, in a way). But it was a really good read. Writing a review for it is going to be soooo hard. xD I hope that one’s as good as it sounds! I’m saving it for next week, because I have library books due that I have to get through this week lol.
If you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend Crown of Wishes! It’s a companion to The Star-Touched Queen, but I actually liked it so much better than the first book. :3

And ah, yes, the fun scramble to read library books before they’re due! I hate returning books unread, so sometimes I end up renewing the book a bazillion times. Sucks when ya can’t renew it.
And I haven’t read Crown of Wishes! And that’s so great to hear that you thought it was better than the first! I enjoyed The Star-Touched Queen, but something was missing in it for me.

I think I can renew these (I hope, at least), but it really depends if someone’s put a hold on them or not. xD The one, probably not. The other just released, so it’s at least possible lol. I’ve only had that happen a couple times, though.
I like The Star-Touched Queen, but the second half seemed to sort of fall off the wagon for me (except Kamala … she’s a treasure). The plot felt a little wonky, and the major crisis bugged me, because how could she not tell that stuff was shady?! Girl spends half the book suspicious of this guy who’s trying to be nice to her but then can’t see shady nonsense when it’s right under her nose? xD I thought that was frustrating. The second didn’t have those issues, I thought, and the romance was hate-to-love, which is one of my favorite tropes when it’s done right. :3

Yeah, I’m just realizing that I also got a lot of new releases from the library and they’re all due within like two weeks so I should probably start scrambling to read them. Eek!
Honestly, I binge read The Star-Touched Queen a few months after it came out, so I don’t remember much, but what you said sounds similar to how I felt. And omg yesss, I also love (good) hate-to-love romances! Ahhh, now you’re really making me want to pick up A Crown of Wishes soon!

Doooo iiitttt. And if you liked Kamala, there’s a similar character in Crown of Wishes. So really, it’s got all the perks of A Star-Touched Queen with less of the downsides. 😀 And that’s definitely one of my favorite romances, because I love when two strong characters who can stand on their own come together. And Gauri and Vikram are both pretty bad-ass in and of themselves, so their romance is really just a bonus. 😛 Oh, and their banter! Oh my gosh. The banter is fantastic.
