My Nominations for the 2020 Book Blogger Awards

I feel like I am still in the process of getting back into my blogging game and working on blog hopping, so this nominations post might be a bit short (and because, of course, I procrastinated until the very last day, so please forgive me if any of you have slipped my mind!). I totally failed at participating in the nominations past years, so I’m glad I was able to write up this post and give these amazing book bloggers more of the attention they deserve!

The Book Blogger Awards were first created and hosted by Joce @ Write Through the Night in 2017. When she quit blogging in 2019, May @ Forever and Everly began hosting them, and starting this year, Marie @ Drizzle and Hurricane Books and May are co-hosting.

Here are my nominations:

Best Adult Book Blogger (20+)~ Destiny @ Howling Libraries

howling libraries

I have been following Destiny’s blog for…a couple years now? Wow, time flies. Over the years Destiny has consistently put out fun and creative content that I love to read! She has a wide range of tastes so I always look to her for recs (especially romance–she always seems to be up to date on current books/trends)! She’s also on Goodreads, Twitter, Instagram, and recently made the move to YouTube!

Best Book Reviews~ Jaime @ Jaime Writes Words and Waffles

Jaime’s blog is also one that I’ve been following for awhile now, and some of my favs of her posts are her reviews! They’re the perfect length–not too brief, and never overly long. I love how honest and straightforward they are, and how she always makes sure to touch on all elements of a book. When she dislikes a book, she always makes sure to stress that her criticisms are her own opinion and that the story could still work for someone else. I also admire how she never attaches numerical ratings to her reviews (not that star ratings are bad! I use them too). Plus, ya gotta love her pretty book pics with waffles! I get hungry every time I pop over to her site. 😋

Best Book Recommendations~ May @ My 1st Chapter

May has technically been on a hiatus lately but she has posted within the last 4 months so I’m pretty sure she still qualifies? Regardless, May is simply too awesome not to mention!
May is one of the kindest, sweetest people I have met in the book blogging world! She leaves the nicest and often funniest comments on posts and they always make my day. She ALSO provides incredible books recommendations, whether in posts of “If You Loved, then Try. . .” or in her Genre Deep Dive series, which provides incredible recommendations on books to read if you’re looking to try or further explore a new genre!

Best Blog Aesthetic~ Alice @ A Reader’s Fiction

I only recently started following Alice’s blog but she posts some of the prettiest bookish pictures I have ever seen! Her post set-up and whole blog design is simple yet elegant and ahhh, most definitely an aesthetic I admire (and perhaps may be a bit jealous of 😉 ).

Best Blogging/Writing Voice~ Sammie @ The Bookwyrm’s Den

The Bookwyrm's Den

In all honestly, I think Sammie deserves to be nominated for the majority of titles in the blogger awards, but I chose this category because Sammie’s narration on her posts is the original thing that drew me to her blog! She is incredibly hilarious and quirky (in a the best way) and I love how wholly herself she is on her blog! Whether it’s reviews, wrap-ups, recommendations or discussion posts, she writes some of my favorite content in the book blogging world. Talking with her, whether in the comments or during a buddy read, is always a joy (and a hoot!). I am honestly astounded more people don’t follow her amazing blog.

Most Engaged in the Community~ Leelynn @ Sometimes Leelynn Reads

I only somewhat recently started following Leelynn’s blog, but I just know she’s going to take the blogging world by storm, because she is already starting to! She helped found the mermaid-themed read-a-thon called SeaMAYden-athon this past May and she just founded an #ownvoices book blog tour company, Hear Our Voices. Also, she’s been creating some great book tags of late! She is an incredible blogger and one you should definitely keep your eye on!

Most Creative~ Kay @ Hammock of Books

Kay’s blog is another one I have been following for awhile. She is hilarious with her either rant or rave reviews–either about the actual books or bookish adaptations. I believe she recently just started discussing her bullet journaling on her blog which seriously makes me wanna try a bujo (tho I’m probs not creative enough with drawing tbh). And she also (often?) creates bookish tags!
ALSO she has a gorgeous aesthetic on her blog and graphics of which she created! all! by! herself! I’m forever admiring them.

Best at Promoting Diverse Books~ May @ Forever and Everly

And of course this post wouldn’t be complete without mentioning one of the hosts! Y’all probably are already aware of this, but May is incredible at creating extensive recommendation lists with #ownvoices, diverse, intersectional rep! I am continuously looking to her for recs. If you don’t know who she is, drop what you’re doing and check out her blog!

And those are my nominations! If you don’t already know who these amazing bloggers are, please go check out their sites!

As I mentioned before, I’m still getting back into my blog hopping game, so if you recently wrote a post that you’re proud of and wanna share, please feel free to drop a link in the comments! No matter the type of post, I would love to check it out and support you!

Blog & Reading Update: My Semi-Hiatus is Over!

update blog banner

I’M DONE; I’M DONE WITH MY SEMESTER! Though I’m at college until I leave for home on Friday, I’ve turned in all my projects and thus finished all my classes! I still have to tie up a few loose ends and work a couple of shifts today (and force my housemates to binge watch the last season of Avatar: The Last Airbender 😀), but now I have ALL the time to read, write, and blog (oh my!).

Omg, it’s so weird to be done. I honestly don’t know what to do with myself; I’m so used to working on some sort of project but now I have none?? So bizarre, ahhhhhh.

Blogging Schedule Update:

I know back in my August Wrap-Up I announced a new blogging schedule for the semester (which I completely failed at right from the beginning), but now that my semester is over (wow, it still hasn’t fully hit me), it’s time to announce my new “schedule”!

Here is my new plan for blogging, at least for the next month, since I don’t know what my schedule will look like next semester because I’ll be studying off-campus in New York (ahh, I’m so excited and nervous, very nervous).

My New Blogging Goal: To post 2-3 times per week

This includes:

  • Regularly participating in Top Ten Tuesday and WWW Wednesday posts
  • Posting book reviews roughly once a week

Currently Reading:

For those of you who have been following my blog regularly now, you’ll notice that these are essentially the same 5 books that I’ve been “reading” all of fall. My reading plan is to first check off some of these books before I begin any new ones. I’ll be posting my official winter break TBR on December 18th for Top Ten Tuesday though, so stay tuned.

Any suggestions as to which books I should return to first?

How is everyone? I missed you guys! ❤

What books have you guys been reading? For those of you still in school, are you hanging in there? (You got this!)

COVER REVEAL: Catching Stars by Cayla Keenan

Now I don’t know about you guys, but I love watching Booktube. Not only do I love watching Booktuber’s videos, but I love following their Instagram accounts for pretty book pictures.

So, one of the Youtubers I subscribe to is Ben Alderson (previously known as Benjaminoftomes). Not only is he an awesome booknerd, but he owns his own indie publishing company, OfTomes Publishing! (Dream goals here, omg)

Which leads me to this post today! Yesterday, Ben Alderson posted on Instagram about needing help doing a cover reveal+ for one of the new YA Fantasy books his company releasing this year.

If I hadn’t made it clear enough on this blog that I’m YA Fantasy trash (if you didn’t know before, well, at least you know now), so you better bet I threw my email down on the signup to hop in for this reveal!

So, without further ado, let’s do this cover reveal:

Catching Stars Final Front Cover

Personally, I tend not to like book covers with people on the front (especially when you can see their faces), but I actually find this cover rather pleasing! I love the clash of green with the dark background and the hand drawn look to it. Yes, it looks like your typical fantasy badass protagonist, but I’m still intrigued to know more, like What are those green-ish magic swirls? Why are her eyes so bright? What’s the story behind the scar on her face? I want the answers now!

So, a couple paragraphs ago I mentioned this was a cover reveal+, meaning not only do we get the cover today, but we also get the synopsis too! (Yessss)

Here it is:

Catching Stars synopsis

Oooh, witches, hunters, corrupt kingdoms, and an on-the-run adventure? I continue to be intrigued. I will definitely be keeping my eye out for this release!

Catching Stars release day

Catching Stars releases on May 8th of this year and you can now preorder the e-book on Amazon here!

So, what do you guys think of the cover? Are you going to be adding this book to your TBR? Let me know in the comments!
